A Reflection In Time

What we see is what we get in life.
It is what we do that is a reflection of
what the world sees of us, and what
we receive in return.

-Jennifer-

We often times look for things outside of ourselves that we believe will bring us fulfillment and the utmost happiness.  It could be a car, home, clothing, jewelry, the list can go on and on. We can very easily judge our worth by how our material world reflects back at us.  Whether it be other people's opinions or our own, we correlate goodness, success and necessity by what it is that we have instead of delving deeper into who we are and what we have to give.

Our life's journey will take us through many phases and to many places, but where is it in our life that we finally discover who we really are and what is important?  More importantly, what is it that makes us feel whole and at one with ourselves, our world and our place in it?

Elizabeth Gilbert is the author of the best selling book, Eat Pray Love.  For those who have not had the pleasure of reading it, it is about her life after leaving her husband.  She takes a journey to different countries in order to rediscover herself and to understand life.  In an interview at the time when the book was first released, Elizabeth stated that we all can go on this journey and that we all need to go on this journey.  It doesn't have to be to a different country. But that the journey itself is within ourselves.  And in my opinion she couldn't be anymore right.

It is so easy to think that a move out of the country, or a change in appearance is somehow going to magically change our lives for the better.  We can psych ourselves up for the reaction we will get from others with these sporatic and sometimes dramatic changes, but soon those reactions fade and we are left with exactly what we started with.  It is not an outward change that will shift our world to what we need or think it should be. The journey is inward.

It is a matter of connecting with the deepest part of ourselves.  The things we do should be for our own growth and good, not for a reaction from our family, friends or critics.  Don't waste your time thinking that life is going to change by simply packing up and moving.  You can move to the other side of the world and who you feel you are inside is going to follow right along with you.  It will be the same scenario different place.

If we attempt to escape from our feelings they will keep showing up in our world.  That is why the only way to find meaning in ourselves and our life is to reflect on where we have been and what we want to stay the same and what we want to be different.  If we are negative minded but want more happiness, we have to figure out how to make that change within ourselves and our own behavior.  If we feel alone, we need to figure out how we can let more love in and learn to accept love that is given to us by giving more love to the world around us.  It sounds pretty simple and it in fact is, however in the beginning it can feel like jumping a hurdle with glue on the bottom of your shoes.

A reflection in time is all we need.  Yesterday I suggested reflecting on where we are in life and celebrating it at that exact moment for exactly where it is that we are.  Today, we can reflect and reveal what it is we want to see change and what we want to stay the same.  Our life journey is happening right now.  The question is, where is it that you want to go?  How do you suppose you can make that happen?  Accept the past as being the past.  Work for a different mindset in the present.  It is a reflection that in time will reveal our truest desires, needs and attributes that instead of masking behind fear, we step out on the stage of life and walk out into our leading role without hesitation. And only with love and acceptance.

How do you see yourself?  Is it the reflection you want to see?  Share with us, we would love to hear from you!

As always with love,

Jennifer
